The Director of Primary Education of Gujarat had directed the teachers in the primary schools of Gujarat to be present for 8 hours during Monday to Friday and 5 hours on Saturday. Protests erupted among teachers against the order. Teachers are also government employees so teachers should work 8 hours a day just like any other department. Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama was present on the occasion of Teacher's Day celebrations at Swaminarayan Gurukul Zundal. On this occasion, the Education Minister honored the talented students. In a statement to the media, Chudasama said that there is a demand to reduce the working hours of teachers but employees of all departments of the state government work 8 hours a day.
